The 2.4GHz Saturation Crisis in Indoor Family Entertainment Centers

Modern Family Entertainment Centers (FECs) operate in severe RF congestion: hundreds of guest smartphones, venue guest Wi-Fi access points, wireless POS terminals, and Bluetooth music beacons congest the 2.4GHz ISM band. In soft play structures encased in structural steel and climbing netting, 2.4GHz signal attenuation exceeds 38dB over just 15 metres.

PlayerLabs developed PlayerNet-Sub1G, an industrial wireless mesh protocol operating in the license-free 868MHz (UK/Europe) and 915MHz (North America) bands utilizing Semtech SX1262 transceivers. By operating at lower carrier frequencies, the protocol achieves 3.5x superior signal penetration through foam padding, timber paneling, and human bodies.

Time-Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) Architecture

Rather than relying on uncoordinated CSMA/CA which experiences packet collapse when 50+ game targets report simultaneously, PlayerNet-Sub1G enforces synchronized TDMA timeslots with pseudo-random frequency hopping:

  • Slot Duration: 2.50 milliseconds per node transaction.
  • Hopping Channels: 16 orthogonal frequencies spaced across 868.0MHz–868.6MHz.
  • Worst-Case Jitter: < 4.8ms for up to 64 concurrent arena targets.
  • Transmit Power: +22 dBm with hardware TVS antenna protection.
